Exercise doesn't have to be in a gym

We tend to think that exercise only happens or counts if we are at the gym. But you don’t have to get a gym membership or run a marathon to enjoy the benefits of daily exercise. You simply need to start moving more. In fact, exercise is anything you enjoy that gets your heart rate and breathing up. Literally anything. So find an activity you enjoy doing and start exercising, your way.

Simply put, we need to start moving more no matter what it is. Scrubbing your kitchen floor really hard or raking leaves in your yard for 10 minutes at a time counts. Maybe you enjoy Salsa dancing, riding your bike, taking walks or doing workout videos in your living room. Whatever exercise you enjoy, whether it’s dancing, sports, yoga, walking, aerobics, hiking or yard work it doesn’t matter as long as it gets your body moving and your heart rate and breathing up.

Proper sleep is the most important thing you can do for your body each day, the foundation of a healthy life and the key to reaching every health goal, including weight loss.

In fact, every health problem you may experience now or in the future is made worse by poor sleep and can be made better with proper sleep. If you don't already, begin to make it a priority.

Sleep Made Easy
Sleep at the right time for the right amount of time
Right time
  • Stick to a consistent sleep schedule
  • Follow the sun (sleep when it’s dark, rise when it’s light)
Right amount of time
  • Sleep 7-9 hrs/night
  • Catch up on lost sleep until you wake each day feeling fully rested

Healthy Is A Lifestyle

12/2/2013

It’s time for us to change the way we think about health; it must become our lifestyle. A diet or program is something you start and then stop. Something you get on and then eventually, whether it be a week or two months, get off. This is wrong. We are working towards a lifestyle change. Because healthy living is not a pit stop; it’s a way of life.

Research has shown that people who use short-term, quick-fix solutions are more likely to fail and usually end up worse off than when they started. On the flip side, people who are healthiest, happiest, enjoy the most energy, maintain a healthy weight and are more likely to avoid chronic diseases are successful because they live a healthy lifestyle, consistently, every day, year after year. Lifestyle truly is the best medicine.

    Ground Rules

No judging: we’re all on the same journey, just at different stages so let’s not tear each other down.
Be honest: let’s get real and let’s do it fast because we are running out of time.
Be open minded and kind: there’s no right or wrong answer (sure some may be better than others) but let’s be open to someone else’s viewpoint.

Accept responsibility: you’re an adult with personal control living in a free land; no one is forcing you to do anything. Assume responsibility for your own actions while we simultaneously work to make the whole system better.
